Hace is used before nouns and best translates to ‘It is’ or the contraction ‘it’s’ with weather expressions, even though the verb hacer often parallels the English verbs ‘to do’ and ‘to make’. Está is also used with adjectives to talk about the condition of the day, wet, clear, humid, cloudy. Hay means 'there is/there are'. To talk about feeling hot or cold, use tengo--I have. Instead of saying 'I am hot' or 'I am cold' in Spanish, you say, 'I have heat' or 'I have hunger'. This is just one of the ways Spanish expressions are not word-for-word like English expressions. | |
